That Chinese Tanker which we reported about earlier apparently was sneaking the coral reefs as a “rat run”. A Rat Run is when a ship takes a faster route to save time and fuel costs even if the section in which the ship was running was not a official shipping lane. That seems to be the case with the Chinese tanker. To be fair, other ships have been found doing “rat runs”, not just the Chinese. But the Australian government is expected to fine the ships owners up to 5.5 million with a fine to be given to the captain of the ship as part of that package. Still salvage teams are worried that the ship might break up if the weather worsens with 975 tons of fuel oil and 60,000 tons of coal on board that could be dumped into the reef below.
