The Multicontrol 8 for AquaRay LED lights is a combination controller-dimmer and power supply all in one. The Multicontrol 8 can support up to eight Aquaray 500 or Aquabeam 500 LED strips, four of the Aquaray or Aquabeam 1000 LED tiles or combinations thereof. Although the Multicontrol 8 can support eight units of TMC’s LED offerings, the MC8 will only be controlling them in two independently timed channels with six units on channel 1 and two units on channel 2. Presumably you’d use channel 1 for the main lights and then channel 2 for the dawn to dusk, mostly blue LED lights. The LED lights from Tropical Marine Centre may still be somewhat of a curiosity here in the US where we have oodles of LED offerings, but in the UK and Europe, aquarists have been collecting and stacking the aquarays and aquabeams for several years and the Multicontrol 8 will surely be a welcome addition to many reefers. We saw at least one particularly nice array of TMC’s aquarays strips and tiles at Taunton Aquatics in the UK which will be very well suited to take advantage of TMC’s Multicontroller 8. There is not yet word on pricing or availability but we presume that if the 2-channel Aquaray power control is $100 or so, the Multicontrol 8 should run in the $200 neighborhood.
