Liopropoma africanum is arguably one of the worlds rarest reef basslets in the marine aquarium hobby but one lucky shop n South Africa has just come into possession of only the third specimen we’ve heard of. rare fish fanciers will surely listen up and take note because specimens of fish as rare as this one only surface every couple of years. This Liopropoma africanum basslet is about 7 cm long and it appears to be a thumb larger than the other two specimens we’ve seen in aquarium pictures. SAreefkeeping obtained this fish from Tropical Marine Centre’s livestock division as an unidentified Liopropoma species. After some sleuthing they discovered this fish is on par with the Rainfordia opercularis basslet we previously wrote about and now prospective buyers f this fish are being pre-screened fro Liopropoma africanum worthyness. How much worthy? At least $1800 and we believe international shipping is out of the question. Huge thanks to Francois for producing these fantastic images upon our request, one more of which can be viewed after the break.
