Blue Moon Aquatics recently brought their high-powered 300W LED panel to market giving plenty of punch for light-hungry hobbyists and adding a new blend of white and blue LEDs to its 90W version. The 300W fixture features 200 white and 100 blue LEDs with two power cords and switches to be able to control both colors individually. The new blend of diodes in the 90W feature an even split of white to blue with 45 of each LED.
On first glance, the Blue Moon Aquatics lights look just like many of the other Chinese boxes on the market but Blue Moon stands behind the quality of the fixture they sell. With so many of these coming on the market we see these as a great way to bring LEDs to the masses but we are skeptical since we know having a product manufactured so far away there can be a wide range in quality of the products.
After discussing the light and specs with the company and seeing these in person, we are pretty comfortable saying Blue Moon has done the work to bring a quality light to the market and are impressed with the assurance it puts behind their products.
By travelling to China and hand selecting the specifications and manufacturer of the LED panels coupled with higher quality control demands, these lights may not feature a name brand diode but the specs are on par (no pun intended) with many of the top 1W LEDs on the market.
The lights also include a no-hassle, top to bottom one-year warranty included with an extra year of full coverage included for $99. Blue Moon won’t jerk you around knowing your light is an essential part of your system. If by chance there is anything that comes up with the light, contact Blue Moon and they’ll get you out a new light ASAP to keep your tank happy.
The 300W panel has a suggested retail price of $1,599 and the 90W version has an MSRP of $549 but can be found for under $500 from larger online retailers such as Marine Depot. A few more pics after the break.
