The AI Wave LED is that funky LED tube from Aqua Illumination which we first introduced to you as the AI Beam back in April. Now that the AI Wave LED is approaching release very soon and an unveiling next weekend, we’ve gotten hold of some more specifications and pricing on this controllable, linkable LED tube. The AI Wave LED will come in three colors, white, blue and super blue, and we suppose that the blue is a regular 470nm blue LED and the Super Blue will be housing royal blues with the 455nm peak.
Each AI Wave LED tube is 11.6 inches long, so just under a foot, and 0.9 inches in diameter. The AI Wave is controllable and linkable with up to six tubes being able to ride the same power supply and controller. The Ai Wave LED uses all Cree XP series LEDs and they can run up to one watt each which is roughly 50% of the brightness of the same LEDs running at three watts. Of course in such a small package there’s no need or room for additional secondary optics, although someone might be able to develop a tiny reflector to slip inside of there.
The AI Wave LED will have an MSRP of $88.15 for the blues and $98.90 for the white version. The controller and power supply are each sold separately and they’ll set you back about $56 for the controller and $37.63 for the power supply. The AI Wave is brighter than your run of the mill supplemental lighting, and definitely too bright to provide twilight or moonlight for all but the largest tanks. What’s especially cool is the slim profile of the AI Wave which should allow color-hungry reefers to double down on both the blue and royal blue AI Wave LED when flanking some high powered lighting like metal halides or T5 lights.
