The Turboflotor Blue T3000 is part of the next generation of needle wheel skimmers from Aqua Medic. The Turboflotor Blue series builds upon the successes of the legendary Turboflotor skimmers which introduced most North American to the concept of recirculating skimmers and needle wheel air injection. We’ve previously covered the diminutive Blue 500, one of the smallest effective needle wheel skimmers available to aquarists but the Blue T3000 is the grand daddy in the series. At 23 inches tall the T3000 is the same height as the old T5000 Shorty but the Blue has a much smaller footprint and it forgoes the recirculating design.
The Turboflotor Blue T3000 uses the same basic design as the Blue 500 and 1000 skimmers and it has the same sandwich mesh-needle wheel which is very efficient at making extremely fine bubbles. Additionally, the Blue T3000 can operate in sump or hang on making this one of the largest hang on protein skimmers we’ve ever come across, even if it ends up hanging on a sump instead. Although the Blue T3000 has been available in Europe for some time now, it has only sporadically been sold here in the US. Retail pricing is still to be determined and we’re just starting to test out this beast of a hang-on skimmer but in the meantime, follow the break for a look at the honkin Turboflotor Blue T3000.
