In the past week a slew of unusual angelfish were collected all around the world. The hybrid passer, cyclops lemonpeel and aberrant bicolor angelfishes were all but eclipsed by the bombshell news of the sensational blackspot pygmy angelfish, Centropyge nigriocella. First up is the adolescent and adult hybrid clarion x passer angelfish from Cortez Marine; they typically bag a couple hybrid this time of year but this year they are no juvies, just a couple hybrids on the larger side.
In addition to the blackspot pygmy angelfish, Vanuatu also yielded a ‘Cyclops lemonpeel’ angelfish. The ‘Groucho’ style lemonpeel angelfish with black blotches on the head are well documented from Vanuatu, and this little guy has the black markings joined into a cyclops spot on the front of its head.
Finally, it ain’t no $16,000 pygmy angelfish but B-Box Aquarium also scored an aberrant bicolor pygmy angelfish. LIke most other unusual C. bicolor before it, this aberrant bicolor angelfish is large and originated from Papua New Guinea.
