What started as a simple monthly marine aquarium club meeting has somehow snowballed into a mini-event. This Sunday, the Pacific Northwest Marine Aquarium Society will be hosting ReefBuilder’s own Matt Pedersen for an extended 2 talk meeting, including “Marine Fish Breeding 101” and the new “Ultimate DIY Project – Marine Fishrooms” presentation. Club members worked really hard to pull this meeting together only to get walloped by insane airfare prices when the crisis in Libya broke out.
It goes without saying that some of PNWMAS’s own members really stretched themselves to help this event financially – organizer David Durr has pledged a PAIR (2!) Platinum Perculas to be raffled off, and Matt Pedersen has pledged a couple used, hard to find copies of the essential (and out of print) “Reproduction in Reef Fishes” by Ronald Thresher. It sounds like local club sponsors have kicked in some salt and gift cards too!
In addition to private and local contributions, two of the hobby’s staunchest club supporters, Reef Nutrition and Piscene Energetics (aka. PE Mysis) stepped up to the plate to help PNWMAS offset the unexpected high travel costs with awesome product donations…not to mention that part of the travel costs were already being supported by the Reef Nutrition funded MASNA Speaks speakers program for MASNA club members. But Reef Nutrition and Piscene Energetics they didn’t stop there.
Somehow, the stars aligned. Not only will Matt Pedersen be there, but Reef Nutrition’s Randy Reed and Piscene Energetic’s Nuri Fisher will also be on hand! Attendees at the Sunday mini-event can enter as early as 12:00 PM to have a chance to chat with Randy, Nuri and Matt before the Matt’s first presentation begins at 1:30 PM.
The PNWMAS meeting is being held at:
US Coast Guard
Marine Safety Unit
6767 N. Basin Ave
Portland, OR 97217
Given the nature of the facility, entrance is only permitted between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM. The event is planned to run to approximately 4:30 PM. If you’re in the Portland, Oregon, area this weekend, this is the place to be!
