LSS Laboratory has developed a splash-resistant cover for the Ecotech Ecosmart Vortech controller During the Japan Earthquake earlier this year, many aquarium stores were destroyed and many reef tanks were shut down. One of the biggest drawbacks to having an aquarium in an earthquake zone is the sloshing of the water right of the tank. Many reef aquarists who kept their electronics next to or under the tank had their devices destroyed by sloshing water, including the shiny Ecosmart controllers. The simple molded cover from LSS provides some level of water protection for Ecosmart controllers while still allowing access to all the basic controls and visibility of the indicator LEDs. The pictured Ecosmart cover from LSS is not the final version. We don’t suppose the Ecosmart cover could cost too much when it launches later next month but then there’s no telling how it will make its way to the US from Japan.
