Once a purveyor of affordable electronic metal halide ballasts, Champion Lighting’s Blueline brand has finally been harnessed to market some simple LED striplights. The Blueline VHO LEDs are made up of strips of high output one-watt LEDs either in all blue or 50/50 ratios and they come in lengths of 24, 36 and 48 inches long. Starting at $120 for the two footer, the BluelineVHO LED lights could be a nice entry-level LED striplight and an affordable choice for larger aquariums needing to add a multitude of LED striplights to back-up existing reef lighting, or to provide supplemental blue-light time.
One interesting note about the Blueline VHO LED striplights is that they are very thoroughly potted in resin, protecting the LEDs and wiring but the Blueline VHO LED striplights have so much resin that it almost completely covers up the primary lens of the LEDS, thereby changing the actual beam angle of the lights to be much broader than the standard issue 120 degree primary optic. The Blueline VHO LED striplights are available from Champion Lighting, as well as the Blueline LED pendant in case you are looking for a more primary LED light for your reef.
