The Deltec SC1455 protein skimmer has a surprisingly entry-level price point from the renowned German manufacturer. With the hot white custom AquaBee needle wheel pump inside the skimmer body, the Deltec SC1455 has cut down its in-sump footprint as well as cutting out the diffuser plate. We know what you’re thinking, and we immediately question how turbulent the skimmer would be without some kind of diffuser. Our skepticism about the wisdom of this design move was immediately refuted after walking to the 200 gallon-ish AquaIllumination/D-D Marine Solution display aquarium.
Seeing the extra mixing height of the Deltec SC1455’s sans diffuser plate it was easy to see that the pump was well tuned for the height of the skimmer’s functional mixing volume, and not too turbulent. Deltec’s SC1455 measures in at 530mm (21 inches) high, it draws 600 lph while using only 11 watts and is rated for tanks up to about 800 liters, or about 240 gallons. For an estimated retail price of 300 Euro, if the SC1455 Skimmer can come to America for the approximate currency exchange price of $384 it would be one of the cheapest ever from Deltec and likely to be snapped up fast by people who’ve always wanted a Deltec but felt the price was often out of reach.
