Marco Rocks’ Key Largo reef rock is a great dry alternative to live rocks in a tank giving you nearly all the benefits of live rock, except the life. That is about to change with the introduction of the Marco Rocks Smart Start Live aquacultured live rock set to hit the market in early 2013. Live rock has hitchickers and pests that make it a gamble but Marco Rocks took the guesswork out by culturing these rocks in an on-shore greenhouse seeding them with the bacteria, coraline algae, and ‘pod populations you DO want in your tank. No word on pricing yet but these will be primarily distributed by a dealer network so make sure you ask your favorite retailer all about it.
