The Nikon Small World photomicrography competition has been going on for 38 years showcasing the beauty and complexity of the microscopic world and the competition just crowned its 2012 winners in the annual competition open to anyone with an interest in photography and using a light microscope. There are stunning images of the insect world, cancer cells and we were definitely pleased to find a few ocean-related images in the mix of winners. Each year there are 20 winners crowned with the top image taking home $3,000 of Nikon equipment. On top of that, the awe-inspiring the images will make a national tour at museums and science centers.
