Every new skimmer nowadays seems to feature some unique design whether DC pumps, integrated volutes, pipeless designs or a combination of the three, but new Aquamedic Turboflotor? Not so much. Instead Aquamedic decided to go with some good ol’ fashioned design for their “new” Turboflotor 5000. Quite basic fluid dynamics tell us that the skimmer design probably isn’t the least turbulent ever created, but similar skimmers have been used for years with great success. Not to mention that topping at 61 inches (155cm) the Aquamedic Turboflotor is designed for all but the largest reefs, at which point consumers are probably less concerned about efficiency as long as it gets the job done.

Wheter you are in the market for a skimmer akin to the Aquamedic Turboflotor 5000 or not, it certainly gives us a nice glimpse of the past. Most of all however it makes us happy that the majority of skimmers have morphed into different and more effective machines. The Aquamedic Turboflotor 5000 can be purchased through Aquamedic, although we’re not sure when it will hit the states, if at all.
