Later this year construction will begin on the futuristic ocean-going vessel known as SeaOrbiter. It will serve as a mobile base of operations for long-term missions in the open oceans. The deep sea is the largest expanse on Earth, but is rarely explored, merely crossed. This scientific vessel will work to change this while finding out what’s yet to be discovered.
Anything one man can imagine, other men can make real.
– Jules Verne
Influenced by exceptional ocean visionaries such as Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Jacques Rougerie is the architectural mind behind this beautiful vessel. Rougerie designed the floating laboratory with exceptional slow-drift capability and self-sufficiency to carry out scientific and educational missions across the big blue. The first year after completion will be targeting the Mediterranean Ocean, while year two will focus on the Atlantic.

That thing looks pretty cool. Where can I get one?
It sure does, Al! I bet if you told them you wanted one, they’d build an extra when they put this one together. Probably only cost you a few dollars… 🙂
