You’ve seen videos that try to relate the size of the Earth to the Universe, and maybe some on the oceans, but this video from TEDxEd does a tremendous job of putting it all in perspective. You’ve heard it before and we’ll say it again, if an alien landed on this planet they would definitely call it “Water” instead of Earth due to the overwhelming amount of the stuff covering this third rock from the sun.
Equally surprising is the number and sheer size of undersea features which dwarf their terrestrial counterparts. Think Mt. Everest is the biggest tallest mountain, or Grand Canyon the biggest gorge? Guess again because if we drained away the salt water, many ocean features would claim all the largest, tallest, deepest and biggest titles, even for the world’s largest waterfall, which happens to be underwater. You gotta watch the video to find out how this is possible.
