Colored frag plugs are coming from Boston Aqua Farms and we’re not just talking white and pink. AS the pioneer in creating the frag plug we know and love today, Boston Aqua Farms has long been asked to produce frag plugs of different colors. Different shapes have been easy as it’s simply a matter of changing molds but colorants turned out to be too hard to make, too toxic, too colorful or a combination thereof, but now they’ve come across a solution.
While the details of the process of coloring their ceramic frag plugs is not touched upon in the slightest, we love the subtle resulting coloration of the new process which imparts a mild pastel coloration to the iconic frag plugs. Any color is possible according to Boston Aqua Farms, and we’ve got pictures of samples of pink, purple, green and a charcoal grey although we’ve seen blue ones that look really good as well.
Boston Aqua Farms makes custom mounts for many of the countries largest coral fraggers and propagators, several of whom we expect will eventually take advantage of the newly perfected coloring process. For now BAF will offer their colored frag plugs in pink/purple and a charcoal grey and they are also toying with the idea of offering rainbow frag packs which would only cost about $1 more per bag of plugs at retail.
