MACNA 2014 has revealed their choice of Keynote speaker this year and what a doozy it will be. Dr. Luiz Rocha will be giving the Keynote presentation at the MACNA 2014 banquet in which we expect him to reveal lots of wonderful information and insights on the science of reef fish, especially those that pertain to the marine aquarium hobby.
Dr. Rocha is a well known scientist, diver, photographer, and his main title at the moment is Curator of Ichthyology at the California Academy of Sciences. Not one to be a desk jockey, Luiz Rocha and a big team of divers, aquarists and researchers are currently in the Philippines doing some diving expeditions, the likes of which are likely to turn up new species of reef fish and invertebrates.
We’ve had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr. Luiz Rocha, in his office of ichthyology, and we can guarantee that Luiz is a dyed-in-the-wool fish nerd. We expect the Luiz Rocha Keynote to go down in MACNA history as one of the best presented deliveries of knowledge and discovery about common and exotic marine fish alike. You can actually get a taste of Dr. Rocha’s skills as a presenter and the vein of his research interests in this presentation that by him that is free to watch online, right now!
We’ll have more to say about Dr. Luiz Rocha’s keynote presentation and some of the amazing nuggets that it will contain, but in the meantime make sure you are signed up for MACNA 2014 so you can attend a very memorable banquet and Keynote. Denver Colorado is beautiful during late August and when the complete speaker lineup is revealed we believe it will be one of the most diverse and exciting spread of topics that MACNA has seen in a long time.

The MACNA 2014 committee is proud to announce an exceptional selection for our Keynote Speaker to conclude the saturday evening banquet. Dr. Luiz Rocha is a professional Ichthyologist, currently the curator of Ichthyology at the California Academy of Sciences. His research deals with the genetics and evolution of lots of different reef fish, many of which are well represented in the marine aquarium hobby.
His close work with the Steinhart Aquarium gives Dr. Rocha a unique perspective on both the science and the hobby of keeping marine aquarium fish and his travels have afforded him the opportunity to visit some of the remotest and most exotic reef locales, with plenty of discoveries to boot. We expect Dr. Rocha to present one of the most entertaining and information dense Keynote presentations that MACNA has ever seen, and for that the banquet is not to be missed.
Full details of Dr. Luiz Rocha’s background and research experience can be found on the MACNA 2014 website. You are encouraged to help get the word out about our selection for the Keynote presentation but please refrain from publishing your stories until Friday May 16th, 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. We are very excited to have Dr. Luiz giving one of the most important presentations of this year’s MACNA and we look forward to seeing you there.
