I have a soft spot in my heart for guppies. I got bit from the aquarium bug thanks to the guppie tank my Dad had when I was just a wee lad and later on had my own crop of them. When I saw this incredible image of saltwater guppies and Gonioporas coexisting in the same aquarium, I was perplexed but wonderfully fascinated. You can thank our friend Justin Credible for raising this strain of guppies that have adapted to live in saltwater and not just brackish water, salty enough to support gonis.
How long does it take for these freshwater denizens to adapt to the saltwater environment? According to Justin via Facebook, “The most recent lineage can switch in a couple days. They are getting more adapted over time. They are one of three strains we’ve been raising at the aquarium, this red delta variety does great at reef salinity. The other varieties we have can’t change over to reef salinity so I don’t work on those anymore.”
We are hoping these beauties will be available from ReefGen in the new future.
