In case you missed it, there is an image circulating showing what the media have dubbed Crabzilla – a giant crab spotted lurking under the water near Kent in the UK. The image spread like wildfire and there was plenty of speculation that it was a hoax. The story first appeared on a website called Weird Whitstable and we now have learned, this in fact was a hoax.
The perpetrator of the viral sensation is Quinton Winter, who runs the Weird Whitstable website. , has come clean and admitted that the picture was a hoax. He told Kent Online he was surprised the image had been taken so seriously.
“Sometimes you put stuff out there and no one takes any notice and then sometimes unexpectedly it goes everywhere. It has been a strange reaction,” he noted. “I don’t think anyone seriously believes there actually is a 50ft crab in Whitstable. What would it feast on? Fat, juicy Londoners?” he added.
