Mag Float seems to be content with releasing one new algae magnet product or size once a year and for next year they’ve got a new smaller version of their popular Mag Float Scrape series. The Mag Float Scrape is an algae cleaning magnet that has a removable glass or acrylic scraping blade while the wet side of the magnetic assembly also floats like the namesake of the company.
The Mag Float aleady comes in two larger sizes for magnetically scraping the walls of aquarium glass that is up to 3/4″ thick but this is overkill for many home aquairums that are much thinner than that. As we’ve seen with the Tunze Care magnet, Flipper and Flipper Nano, the general reef aquarium hobby really loves their smaller scraping algae magnets which Mag Float is aiming to address with their new model.
The new smaller Mag Float Scrape appears the same general size as the classic Large Mag Float cleaning magnet which is currently rated for aquarium glass up to 3/8″ thick. Pricing and availability are still quite a ways off for Mag Float’s next scrape model but we were told it could be released in the second quarter of 2015.
