Do you know how special a particular strain of Discosoma has to be to merit being featured not once but twice? If ever there was a a strain of mushroom anemone that is “post-worthy” the recently discovered Eclectus Mushroom is it. Now we can breathe easier knowing that at least one specimen has safely made the long journey from Bali, Indonesia to North America.
A few rocks are slated for American importers but Reef Wholesale got first honors when their precious cargo arrived in their holding tanks earlier this week. Shortly after settling in and opening up Reef Wholesale used this opportunity to feed the Eclectus Mushroom and did a tasteful video of this beautiful cnidarian gorging itself on some Fauna Marin coral food.
If you were hoping to score an Eclectus Mushroom yourself, it seems the excitement around this new strain was so great that pretty much every rock has been spoken for and thankfully, earmarked for targeted propagation. It’s nice to know that the Eclectus Mushrooms won’t be squirreled away in the private tanks of the most affluent reef keepers, even if it means that it’ll take a year or two for some polyps to enter the market.
