The Skimz Monzter Mini Calcium Reactor is small on size, but big on features and quite noticeably different from what we have seen before. It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen a truly novel calcium reactor design, and Skimz of Singapore is delivering more than a few innovations to this workhorse device of the reef aquarium.
Like so many pump-powered devices in recent years, the Monzter mini Calcium Reactor is blessed with new powers of control thanks to a variable speed DC pump. This is the first second calcium reactor we’ve seen using a DC pump, but besides being a controllable and really efficient little motor, what truly makes the Monzter shine thanks to the DC pump is the form factor of the pump.
The entire assembly of the Monzter Mini Calcium Reactor is thanks to the unique orientation of the DC pump which allows for an incredibly small footprint. The most eye-catching part of the new design is not how small they are, but how little material they use, making them easier to build and very affordable for what they are.
Skimz is building the Monzter Mini in two sizes suitable for tank sizes up to 130 gallons and 210 gallons which will have an estimated price of $149 and $179 . Both models were just announced at Aquarama so it’ll be a while before these neat new calcium reactor hit the streets.
