Innovative Marine has been laser focused on producing the best All in One aquarium for several years now. At Aquarama 2015 Innovative Marine announced a handful of improvements to the Skkye LED lights and Auqa Gadgets line are bound to keep them on top.
First up, the Skkye LEDs have never been the top of our list of lights to pair with the Nuvo or Shallow Reef series aquariums. Unblended LEDs and a generally poor color rendition and few features have steered reefers towards fixtures and spotlights with more power, and especially more color controls.
However, a new blend of LEDs and a mixed pattern of white and blue diodes has resulted in a spectrum from the Skkye LED lights that is much more flattering to corals. We’re not exactly sure what Innovative Marine did to their Skkye lights, but the color of the corals in their display tank at Aquarama as seen above is much improved. You still don’t get any control features with this fixture but at $119 each it’s a great value for keeping the lighting simple.
The other new improvements to the Nuvo and SR tanks from Innovative Marine is the addition of a high quality filter sock and a Fishguard. The Auqa Gadget filter sock comes in two sizes, with a 200 micron mesh felt for fine polishing of aquarium water. The filter sock is braced by a molded holder which prevents water bypass, and easily allows users to reach in and grab them out, but as a consumable, disposable product, we’re not too thrilled about how much plastic will end up in the trash each time one of these gets thrown away.
Finally, the Auqa Gadget Fishguard is a slotted plastic screen to go over the drains of Nuvo and SR aquariums. Nano tanks are especially well suited for nano fish, and with ever smaller species becoming available to reefers, the availability of the Fishguard should allow more users to readily enjoy Trimma and Eviota gobies without fear that they will be “processed” by the aquarium filter.
