Ultra Reef had a very big InterZoo, introducing their finely machined aquarium products to a wider audience than ever before. They already turned heads with their Nano Calcium Reactor and easily serviced media filter with possible Chaetomorpha reactor modification kit.
The hits keep on rolling for Ultra Reef with their new Typhoon protein skimmer, which is the first such model designed to be used with the exciting new Sicce Smart DC PSK. The Sicce SDC PSK is of course the first controllable needle wheel pump from Sicce, and it should be a very worthy successor to the PSK pumps which have been one of the standards-bearer for reliable needle wheel pumps for many years now.
The machining precision that Ultra Reef displays with the Typhoon skimmer is nothing short of impressive. There’s not a single molded part on the entire body of the typhoon, and even the gate valve is built and constructed with the utmost attention to detail.
The large bodied Ultra Reef Typhoon has a large footprint and designed for internal sump operation, with a conical body shape. The diffuser plate of the Typhoon skimmer is also quite interesting, with a peripheral line of diffuser holes surrounding the large central exit pipe. The large basal acrylic pipe looks like where the air water mixture should be entering the body, but it’s actually a reverse design from what we see in most protein skimmers with a large dedicated bubble diffuser plate.
Either way it’s clear that with the Typhoon Ultra Reef didn’t just take an existing protein skimmer design and slap the new SDC PSK on it. We can’t wait to see one of the new Typhoon skimmers fired up with a production Sicce Smart DC controllable PSK needle wheel pump because all signs indicate that this is going to a killer combination for keep reef aquarium water well skimmed.
