The Fluval Flex is a new line of aquariums from Hagen & Co. which takes a new approach to concept tanks. Fluval introduced the new Flex tanks in two sizes at InterZoo earlier this summer and we can testify that they are quite striking, especially in a sea of cubic and right-angled glass boxes.
Typical bowfront aquariums generally feature a front pane of glass which is gently curved or bowed from side to side. But the Fluval Flex tanks actually turn this curve on its side, with a gentle curve from the top to the bottom.
Since we all have binocular vision, bowfront aquariums with a side to side bend tend to distort the view, an aberration whjich is even more pronounced in corner tanks with curved glass. However the top to bottom curve is affects our binocular vision differently leading to a more magnified view of the tank, with much less distortion.
Fluval will be offering the Flex aquariums in two sizes, a Flex IX which is about nine gallons, and a Flex XV which is about 15 gallons in size. The availability and pricing of the new Fluval Flex tanks has not yet been determined, but they shouldn’t carry too much of a premium when they finally do hit the international market for small all in one aquariums.
