Alkalinity monitoring is one of the holy grail parameters that reefers hope to control in our aquariums and the dream is almost here. The prototype alkalinity monitor displayed at MACNA by Jim Welsh will soon be incorporated exclusively with Neptune Systems Apex aquarium controller.
After temperature and salinity, alkalinity is arguably the most important value of seawater chemistry governing the well being and balance of a reef aquarium. Although alkalinity is easy enough to test, precisely and accurately, this is also one of the fastest changing values, especially in tanks with lots of fast growing stony corals.
Being able to monitor and control alkalinity, and all the stability that comes with it, will dramatically simplify and improve the equilibrium of a reef aquarium. Many of the other parameters of seawater are easy enough to streamline, but having fine-grained control over alkalinity levels could be reason enough to invest in an alkalinity control solution.
With its matured ecosystem of cloud control, accessories and global popularity, the Apex Controller is the perfect match for Jim Welsh’s automatic alkalinity monitor and controller. After MACNA, Jim and Neptune Systems came to an agreement; Neptune Systems obtained the exclusive rights to develop, build, and market an automated alkalinity monitoring solution based on Jim’s invention.
Jim will also work closely with Neptune Systems as a private consultant to assist in moving the project forward. At this point there is no official product being announced related to this technology acquisition. When/if a related product is put onto the product roadmap, you can bet your tail fin that you’ll see here on Reef Builders with the quickness.
