The Blenny Watchers are at it with another great and exclusive look at the behavior of unusual marine life. In focus for this video is a pair of illustrious Nursalim flasher wrasses, Paracheilinus nursalim, showing us everything they’ve got.
Part battle and part show, this ‘Flasher Battle’ is a dramatic flash of color and speed. At rest most flasher wrasses are subtle colored fish but when the males light up to attract a mate or fend off competition, look out!
It’s during these brief encounters that you can see the look of flasher wrasse species become fully realized. The combination of color, quick swimming motions and those filamented fins that go on for days are truly something to behold.
And when two males go at it, they become so involved at their flasher battle that they pay no mind of the various cameras and lights documenting the whole ordeal. It’s awesome to see these nursalim flasher wrasses documented with such liveliness, and neat to see their Pavona-dominated habitat which is classic for flasher and fairy wrasses.
