Fauna Marin just announced its Fauna Marin Skim Breeze, its new carbon dioxide absorbing granular media for protein skimmer air feed purification.
Fauna Marin isn’t the first company to bring a CO2 absorbant to the aquarium market (Two Little Fishies CDX is one that comes to mind), but one thing we’ve come to expect with Fauna Marine is quality products across the board and we’re sure Skim Breeze is a high-grade material.
The goal of protein skimmer air purification is to increase the pH value and add more stability. In today’s modern and efficient houses we don’t see as much fresh air leaking in with proper seals around doors and windows. Although this may not seem like a big increase in CO2, every little bit starts adding up, particularly when chasing pH levels in a marine aquarium.
The media is simply placed in a container inline of the protein skimmer’s air intake and CO2 is absorbed as the air passes through the granules that can help reduce algae growth while increasing coral growth.
There wasn’t much information online, but if this is similar to other materials, it will change from white to pink as it becomes saturated with CO2. When it does, simply replace the media.
