AirBuddy | explore the underwater with tankless dive gear
We first wrote about the AirBuddy in January and we’re excited to see the launch of their much-anticipated Kickstarter campaign. And we can see we’re not alone, already within the first day, the project is nearly 50% funded.
AirBuddy
AirBuddy is a compact a tankless diving system that offers 45 minutes of diving time at a depth of up to 12 meters (40 ft) and eliminates the need for a traditional scuba tank.
While AirBuddy does not replace traditional scuba diving, the AirBuddy is a convenient portable solution for shallow water exploration. The AirBuddy has a 12V battery which take 3.5 hrs to fully charge via a standard electrical socket and is small enough to fit in your carry-on luggage.
How Does It Work?
AirBuddy consists of three main components: a battery-powered air compressor, a supply hose, and a regulator. The rechargeable 12V battery powers the air compressor that pressurize the surface air. The air is then delivered to the diver through a receiver and a supply hose with a regulator (mouthpiece). This means you don’t have to store and take all the compressed air with you under water.
The air is then delivered to the diver through a receiver and a supply hose with a regulator (mouthpiece). This means you don’t have to store and take all the compressed air with you under water. You breathe fresh air from the surface.
Experience a less inhibited diving experience with increased safety. Don’t carry unnecessarily heavy equipment on yourself – feel like a fish in the water.
- No heavy gear on your back
- No need to adjust your bouyancy throughout the dive
- With no BCD (containing residual air), wear less weights (less gear to carry)
- With lower drag, wear smaller fins to propel yourself (less gear to carry)
- Use a more natural frog kick (as opposed to flutter kick)
- Simply walk to dive sites with difficult road access
- Set-up and pack-up in less than 2 minutes
Check out the AirBuddy Kickstarter page and support this exciting new way to dive. Backers who pledge AUS $1,499 (about $1,125 USD) or more will receive one AirBuddy system.
