One of the very reasons that we love this hobby is that it doesn’t take a big tank to create a wonderful masterpiece and Michael Rice’s nano reef is the living embodiment of this. He’s got a simple setup with a living slice of the reef which is anything but basic!
None of the equipment or method is remarkable in any way; the aquarium glass itself is not high clarity, the refugium is meh, the skimmer’s been modded with a wooden airstone, and even the LED spotlight is a five year old Kessil A350.
There’s no magic to be seen here, just good reef keeping fundamentals. with a couple very good pieces of advice from Mike: Do your water changes, and make sure to look at your corals. This is the democratic side of the hobby which makes this reef aquariums so appealing across the social spectrum and Mike’s Nano Reef really is a little slice of magic.
