The CYANO is a new dive computer that has been popping up at dive and leisure shows across Korea since the start of 2017. CYANO is a wrist-worn dive computer that looks like a carbon copy of an apple watch, peppered with bluetooth social network capabilities reminiscent of the COSMIQ+ computer.
CYANO has a sleek website and a professional looking booth reinforcing their brand image of a sexy stylish dive computer. CYANO is made by the Korean company Watoom Inc. which specializes in waterproof electronics.
The CYANO is made to be worn every day and comes with a watch mode as well as diving mode. The diving mode features all the basic dive data, like no-decompression limits, diving time, depth, temp, and also includes a compass which is a nice feature not often included in basic dive computers.
The new computer isn’t trying to hide the fact their design is based on the popular Apple watch and advertises that the watch bands can easily be replaced with any 24mm apple bands. You can also replace the bands with a keychain or pendant clip.
The CYANO works with a wireless charging dock and is compatible with all wireless chargers on the market. The battery life is up to 10hr in diving mode and 48 hours in watch mode so you will have to charge this computer every other day of diving.
Personally, we are notorious for forgetting to charge up our half dozen gadgets before a dive and on more than one occasion our COSMIQ+ dive computer (which has a similar battery life) ran out of juice in the middle of the dive. When this happened we simply stayed above our buddy for the rest of the dive and followed their profile for the following dives, but it was still a pain in the butt every time this happened.
We have to wonder about the safety of all these new fashion first dive computers, especially the low battery life. Inexperienced divers could put themselves into questionable situations if they forget to charge up their computer before each day of diving.
The CYANO computer will be making its American debut at the end of July in Salt Lake City, and by the looks of it will be attending the DEMA show in Orlando. The CYANO is currently priced at 490,000 KRW ($425 USD) although this is listed as a special price so we assume it will cost more once it reaches the states.
