The Vectra S1 is the third and smallest model in Ecotech Marine’s lineup of controllable DC water pumps. Due to the M1 and L1 naming convention of the medium and large Vectra pumps, we knew that the small Vectra S1 would eventually be released, but it’s taken two long years for this to finally happen.
The reason for the ‘delay’ is multifold, but mostly Ecotech Marine used the last couple of years to refine and optimize the performance of the two larger Vectra pumps. There’s a lot more wiggle room with larger pumps that have larger moving parts but when shrinking the design, the tolerances get smaller and it’s even more critical since the moving parts are closer together.
This has culminated in lots of learning experience for Ecotech Marine to get the Vectra S1 totally right, and they’re finally ready to release it to the world. The Vectra S1 is rated for 1,400 gallons per hour, with a power draw of 55 watts, and it’ll be able to do all the same tricks as the larger models.
The Vectra S1 will benefit from the same QuietDrive system for near silent operation, there will be plenty of quick access features right on the controller, and off course the benefits of being connected to Ecosmart Live. Through the ESL software you’ll be able to program your pump, set it into closed loop mode, but most importantly to calibrate the pump for a flow rate which is appropriate for your particular application.
The Vectra S1 is not all that much smaller than the existing M1 and L1 models, being 6 inches in overall length, and 3.5 inches in total width, or one inch less for each dimension than the largest Vectra L1. However the reduced footprint is a huge deal because it allows the Vectra S1 to squeeze into the smallest of sumps and better yet, many of the built-in filtration for medium to large sized all in one aquariums.
But the biggest and most important reduction for many of you will be the price, with the Vectra S1 coming in at $275, a solid $75 less than the Vectra M1. This is a very reasonable price for the feature set which is standard with all Vectra pumps, and the peace of mind in knowing this is almost a second generation pump since Ecotech Marine has been refining the Vectras for nearly two years.
Thankfully we won’t have to wait long to get our hands on the new Vectra S1 controllable return pump which will begin shipping September 1, or just under a month from today.
