The first thing most non-aquarist think when you tell them you have a saltwater aquarium is that it must take so much time, be very expensive, and very hard to maintain. That may have been true way back in the day but it’s entirely possible to keep a saltwater tank which is easy, beautiful, and affordable.
If you know how to maintain the basics of reef aquarium chemistry – temperature, salinity and nutrients – it’s possible to have a very successful reef tank with just the bare essentials. Many of you readers come to read about the latest and greatest reef aquarium tech and products, but none of this gizmos and doodads mean anything if you don’t know how to master the fundamentals.
In the newest video I show you how I maintain such a basic reef tank. This nano reef is still ‘in development’ with lots of room to add corals but just like Sanjay’s Nano Reef, and many other successful setups, the key is to take things slow, and to keep an eye on the most essential parameters of healthy seawater.
