Last week it seemed like a hurricane of biblical proportions was going to descend on Florida and ravage everyone, everything, and every aquarium in sight. Thankfully it seems like Irma weakened just enough before it hit major urban centers in this state and caused a ‘reasonable’ amount of damage, whatever that is.
But before then, it sure seemed like a lot of aquarium companies were preparing for the worst and many a corals were shipped out of the hurricane’s path before it hit. I received one such care package from ACI Aquaculture containing a sampling of some of owners Chris and Amanda’s most prized pieces for safeguarding.
The unboxing of these corals was a complete surprise as there was no time for discussion, just pack it and ship it. Since I had no idea what was going to be in the box, an impromptu live video of the discovery was shared on our YouTube channel, and a second video spotlighting each of these precious reef animals just went live.
In a way it’s so nice that reefers have this ability to share and safeguard our prized corals in the face of potential catastrophe, and it’s because of sharing that many of us have corals in our tanks that have been in constant culture for decades. But at least for now the best part is not just seeing what some of the Meckley’s favorite corals are, but enjoying and growing them in my primary reef tanks where I get to see the everyday.
Most of the eye candy is in the second video but for context and always a little side commentary on various happening in the reef scene, the first part is also a cool video as I talk about how I ‘walk my Azoox corals’ on a daily basis.
