Seeing the new Eshopps S-Series protein skimmer in person is a treat after reading about the new Eshopps S-Series design changes implemented earlier this year, where they improved a few areas of an already decent design. Chatting with the Eshopps team and going over the changes, they may seem minor, but they add to the performance and versatility of this skimmer.
As we pointed out earlier, one of the major design upgrades that stand out is the Eddy Bubble Plate that features angled baffles to move the water and air around to help regulate the bubble sizes and get a finer bubble. From seeing one set up on the quickly installed display tank, there was already some decent activity after running for under 48 hours.
In their literature they quote an independent test that noted a 400% increase of organic waste contact time with the Eddy vs. without. Without knowing how the test was conducted, we can’t comment too much on this, but even if its just half of that, you’re better off with a bubble plate like this.
Another one of the new features of the updated Eshopps S-Series protein skimmer is the use of a gate valve (slotted with the logo even), that allows for a finer adjustment of the water level in the skimmer. They also pointed out the clear venturi, which helps to easily spot buildup like calcium, algae or other gunk that hampers performance.
The new line of Eshopps S-Series protein skimmers include three models — the S-120, S-200 and S-300 — that retail for $299.99, $449.99 and $549.99 respectively. Check out the short video below of the skimmer in action.
