Zetlight, the makers of the unique UFO LED light, A200 WiFi controller and the King Kong DC pump, also have a line of “smart” protein skimmers that integrate the WiFi connectivity of the King Kong and A200 to control the skimmer all from a mobile app.
The Zetlight Smart WiFi Protein Skimmers comes in both internal and external models in four sizes and while the skimmer itself isn’t much different that what’s on the market today. In fact, the body probably resembles some older versions of SWC and RLSS skimmers.
But the addition of the King Kong DC pump make it more noteworthy. Particularly the eight-stage DC motor for smoother stopping, starting and overall control. The King Kong is also fitted with a pinwheel impeller to get a good chop of air to churn out the organics.
Using the Zetlight A200 controller, the King Kong pump can be controlled — adjusted in flow from 0-100% (with 100 stops along the way so you actually get 1% increments). There isn’t much information on the website about all the bells and whistles of the app, and when we downloaded it, weren’t able to get to all the features — not sure if its because the app was buggy or because we didn’t have a controller to connect it too.
If you’re one to look for control and willing to try something new, the Zetlight skimmer might be worth taking a look at.
