There’s been a slew of new devices introduced in recent years targeted at automatically testing reef tank alkalinity including the KH Guardian, KH Director, the Alkatronic. As great as these have been, and they’re pretty awesome when they work, they are still one trick ponies.
Reef Kinetics has been working on their own version of an automatic water testing and as the ReefBot name implies, it’s a true water testing robot capable of performing any test that uses liquid reagents. With the ReefBot you can easily get automatic water testing of alkalinity, and select any number of other parameters to test and monitor including calcium, magnesium, phosphate, nitrate, etc.
The ReefBot can hold up to eight vials of reagents – alkalinity only takes one – so you’ve got seven spots left to mix and match the parameters of greatest interest to you until there’s no more room for vials. But the beauty of the ReefBot is that you’re not stuck with any one parameter, and you can always reset it to focus either more on elements like calcium and magnesium, or nutrients like phosphate and nitrate.
For $800 the ReefBot can test and monitor all of these parameters for you, and with the forthcoming connected dosing pump you’ll also get automatic control of up to four different channels of chemicals. While the ReefBot was in development for a long time this true water testing robot has actually been shipping for several months and is actually back ordered until the next production run currently underway. If you want to learn more about the ReefBot and you’re at InterZoo, be sure and stop by the MaxSpect booth in Hall 9 to see this exciting new device in action.
