AquaLife Reef Trace Elements GC is a new additive from Aquarium Life Support designed to make dosing micro and trace elements a much simpler process. The additive makes the addition of these essential ions in appropriate ratios to calcium.
Since seawater can change from region-to-region, this formula is based on data averages from the tropical regions where we our corals tend to come from. The method outlined by AquaLife is to first determine the calcium utilization rate and then calculate the right dose of AquaLife Reef Trace Elements GC. AquaLife Reef Trace Elements GC is formulated that one drop per gallon would increase strontium by 0.2 mg/L, as well as the other ions proportionally.
According to AquaLife, you need get your calcium concentrate where you want it using whatever calcium dosing method you use and wait 10 days and measure again. You need to do a few more calculations to find out how many drops you need, but it would be much simpler if they included a calculator on their website to you just have to punch in the two numbers and have it tell you how many drops.
For math lovers, its probably pretty simple, but we’ve gotten so used to simple calculators on the web and in apps, it would be really nice (hint, hint AquaLife!).
AquaLife Reef Trace Elements GC includes these elements: Boron, Cobalt, Copper, Manganese, Molybdenum, Nickel, Potassium, Rubidium, Strontium, and Zinc.
AquaLife Reef Trace Elements GC is available in 120 mL or 450 mL bottles.
