ReefStock Australia is shaping up to be the country’s biggest reef show ever and already we’re starting to get a peek at what makes this show special. This crazy Micro Lord coral collected by Salty Pets is just one example of the craziness we expect to see direct from the collectors in just a little over a month.
Where Micromussa lordhownesis is common, it is not at all unusual to see two or more colonies fused into a single bicolored or sometimes tricolored colony of big round polyps & corallites. However the ‘Remix Lord’ found by Salty Pets takes the natural fusion experiment to a radical new level.
It appears that there’s only three different strains involved in the merger, but the way that the polyp mix and match leads us to believe these different colonies have been integrated with each other for many years, maybe even decades. Better yet, the three strains in this melange include one multicolored rainbow, one pink and red, and a green striped strain to tie it all together.
Even without being completely open the Remix Lord from Salty Pets is already a show stopper, and we can’t imagine what it will look like completely opened up. We’re just under six weeks until the inaugural ReefStock in Australia kicking off the weekend of August 11th and we can’t wait to see this coral for ourselves!
