Two of the biggest name in the reef aquarium industry, Bulk Reef Supply and Worldwide Corals, are teaming up to present an entirely new concept to the reef aquarium world. You may have heard of the Berlin method, Jaubert System, Miracle Mud, Zeovit, etc. and these all represent specific approaches to dealing with just one part of reef aquarium husbandry, mostly for managing nutrients and or maintaining chemistry.
But there’s a whole lot more that goes into having a successful reef tank than just keeping it clean and balancing the chemistry needs of the reef life. The fundamentals like temperature, salinity and pH need to be in an ideal range before any other parameters are addressed.
You need to have the right quantity, quality and duration of light for specific groups of corals. The water flow needs to be of the right kind and speed both for the health of the corals and for the proper function of reef aquarium ecology. Once you factor in feeding, water changes, chemical medias and good old fashioned observation you realize there’s a ton of know-how that’s essentially missing from the most popular reef aquarium ‘methods’.
In this first episode of the WWC x BRS Collab Ryan discusses the general state of the reef aquarium hobby and touches upon these various ‘methods’. Once they identify some of the gaps they will be investigating WWC’s philosophy for keeping their various display and culture tanks and seeing how a more complete and holistic reef aquarium methodology can be presented to the hobby.
This is a very exciting and ambitious project between BRS & WWC that will hopefully shed some light on the A to Z of how to be successful with a reef tank. Whether it’s your first reef tank or you want to improve your own coral garden game, the next few videos will be deeply informative and eye opening for viewers.
