The Hydor E-SK DC Controllable Skimmer is the official name for the interesting looking fractionator we spied at Reefapalooza a few weeks ago. The launch of Hydor’s first radically new protein skimmer design in quite some time is still a few months away but we’ve got all the details on the three models of the E-SK skimmer except for price.
As we mentioned in our previous article, the Hydor E-SK is a protein skimmer using the new controllable Seltz D pumps. So just like you can control the Seltz D for various flow rates, you can adjust the performance of the E-SK protein skimmer at the touch of a button. This skimmer has the added benefits of quiet operation, energy efficiency, feed timer and special for the E-SK skimmers is an 80 second start delay to prevent overflowing when starting up after a power interruption.
Hydor will be offering the E-SK controllable skimmer in three sizes, the E-SK 600 DC rated for up to 150 gallons, drawing 600lph of air while using 12 watts, the E-SK 1000 DC rated for up to 250 gallons drawing 800lph and using 19 watts, and the largest E-SK 1600 DC rated for up to 400 gallosn while drawing 1000lph and 26 watts of power. One of the most notable design decisions of the Hydor E-SK controllable skimmers is the pipeless design which affords these models a very small footprint for use in tight sump spaces.
