The Carpetsma aquarium thermometer is a very interesting new temperature measuring device that we’re starting to add to every tank and system in the Reef Builders Studio. If there’s one aquarium accessory that gets even less attention that heaters, it’s the thermometers that readout the actual aquarium temperature.
It’s easy to get caught up by all the bright lights, whirly pumps, auto testers, and wireless doodads but this thermometer has at least one trick up its sleeve to help it stand out in a crowd of crummy thermometers. The LCD screen is transparent, not as clear as crystal but close enough to really stand out when you see your fish and corals through it.
One thing we love about the transparent LCD is that it’s a very large screen and interestingly, the digits somewhat disappear at an angle, but are clear and crisp when viewed head-on. Although we have multiple, redundant thermometers on almost every tank, unless they’re really in plain sight it’s easy to look them over, and not notice or realize when temperatures begin to change, especially with the seasons.
The other convenient factor of the transparent aquarium thermometer is that it’s an external thermometer, meaning that it measures the temperature of the aquarium glass. This seems like it would be an inaccurate way to measure the temperature of aquarium water, but we checked and ‘calibrated’ them with other thermometers and the temperature has so far been within half a degree fahrenheit among the five units we’re currently using.
Some of you may not totally appreciate having a large LCD thermometer front and center, it does detract from the clean aesthetics of an aquarium display. But if you’re a stickler for keeping parameters like temperature, pH and salinity in check, the Capetsma aquarium thermometer with its transparent display is a stylish, futuristic option.
