Tropical Marine Centre has launched an upgraded version of the iLumenAir aquarium light. Named the iLumenAir+, the new model is available in three sizes and boasts new rear mounting brackets, and a new LED configuration.
Like the iLumenAir Connect model before it, the new + model has the same form factor, top-mounted cooling fans, and Wi-Fi control, but the old side mounting legs have been replaced by sturdier-looking rear mounting brackets, which bring it more in line with its competitors.
The brackets are pre-assembled and supplied with the light in the same box, and at the same price, so potential buyers can mount it straight out of the box and not have to pay out for any unincluded extras.
LED array
The new 600, 900, and 1200 models are 10.9”, 23.5”, and 32.5” long and are aimed at lighting reef aquariums of two, three, and four feet long respectively. The three models come populated with 28, 56, and 84 LEDs and draw a maximum of 85, 148, and 200 watts, according to TMC.
Look underneath the light and the array has changed from two large multi chips and widely spaced unlensed diodes to individually lensed diodes, enabling more PAR than its predecessor but for less power consumption than the old 900 and 1200 models. The 600 model also jumps up in PAR but jumps from 50W to 85W power consumption in order to deliver it.
App control
The three-channel color control of the old model stays, only this time they’ve dumped the red channel altogether in favor of a 6500k white, a 410-415nm and 450-460nm blue/violet channel, and a 460-470nm blue channel. The Connect App also offers timer functions, dimming, acclimation mode, and other effects.
With modular LED units being the norm the single panel and power cable will appeal to some reefers who crave a single, value lighting solution for their reef tanks. The three models have recommended retail prices of £299.99, £569.99, and £649.99 in the UK.
