UltraPlanktos and MicroPlanktos Z & P are some new marine aquarium foods from Brightwell Aquatics which offer a wide range of particle sizes for feeding a wide range of reef aquarium animals. Brightwell already has some very similar liquid feeds for various aquarium applications but the big difference with the new UltraPlanktos and MicroPlanktos Z & P is that they are also fortified with goodies to make them even more nutritious.
The various Phytoplankton and Zooplanktons within Brightwell’s new foods are boosted with “free-form essential amino acids, vitamins important to immune system function, rich oils of marine origin (also rich in omega-3 HUFA), and natural feeding attractants to improve feeding responsiveness in fishes”. Phytoplankton and zooplankton are already well known as important sources of very critical nutrients and vitamins so these pre-enriched, fortified aquarium foods should be some of the richest on the market.
UltraPlanktos Z contains the largest particle sizes in the new foods, consisting of five types of zooplankton with particles ranging between 50 and 2000 microns, or 2 millimeters, and is most suitable for feeding the larger mouths on the reef including anemones, gorgonians, LPS corals and small fishes. UltraPlanktos P takes the particle sizes down a notch with seven types of phytoplankton which are most suitable for feeding clams, sponges, tunicates and tubeworms.
One thing we’ve always appreciated about Brightwell Aquatics’ approach to reef aquarium foods is how clearly they categorize them into different particle size ranges. These new bottle food offerings are preserved in a solution that can be manually added to the aquarium or dosed to the aquarium since they do not need to be refrigerated but you’ll want to use a magnetic stirrer if you plan to dose them automatically.
