An upgraded version of a popular automatic fleece filter has been spotted on sale in the UK. Like the Gen 2 before it, the new ClariSea Gen 3 looks to come in two sizes, capable of handling flow rates of up to 3000 and 5000lph. But this time it comes part assembled and includes some refinements to improve set up, running and maintenance of the unit.
Out of the box the front, back, and filter plates now come ready assembled so the unit free stands, with the adapter plates pre-fitted too. Previously with the Gen 2, you fitted the bottom rollers and had to feed the fleece down inside the unit and under them – the fiddly part. But with Gen 3, you drape the fleece down into the filter body before fitting the bottom rollers, making installation (and replacement,) of the fleece much easier.
You do still have to fit the long fastening screws to hold the fleece close to the filter plates, but this time there are top rollers supplied to lessen that friction and tightness when the fleece is pulled over the top and to aid roll alignment. The motor features an upgraded cruciform and a dirty fleece removal tool is included in the box.
For Gen 3 the float switch is preassembled on its bracket now too, saving set-up time, and the acrylic splash guard plates are now quick-release and fitted last – again aiding in-situ maintenance of the unit. The 32mm connector from the Gen 2 now broadens to accommodate both 40mm metric and 1” imperial pipework as well.
Welcome improvements
We’ve fitted dozens of ClariSea units to our own and other tanks and although we love the improvement in water clarity that the ClariSea brings we admit to reverting to the Gen 2’s setup video to check we’ve put everything back right after strip down and cleaning.
We’ve seen a leaked video of the Gen 3 set up today, and although fundamentally similar to the Gen 2, the setup does look to be more straightforward and takes less time than previously. Installers will gain valuable minutes and the Gen 3 is now better equipped to take on other roller filters which boast preassembly straight out of the box.
