The Powertronic and Flowtronic are two predictably named products from Focustronic which will one day give the company one of the most well rounded ecosystem of reef aquarium gear. The Focustronic catalog already includes one LED light and another one coming, an alkalinity tester, a multi parameter tester, a doser and they’ve already teased an automatic filter roll.
Adding to that list of promised new releases will be a controllable power center called the Powertronic and an oscillating water pump called the Flowtronic, both of which were teased in a recent promotional video touting each element of this family of reefing equipment. With all of these elements the only thing missing from the ensemble is some kind of fancy-tricky protein skimmer or calcium reactor although it could be argued that the Filtertronic and Mastertronic obviate the need for these complimentary devices.
Focustronic’s pre-announcement of upcoming products and devices they are working on is well out of character from most aquarium and consumer electronics companies which like to surprise their users by announcing products that are nearly complete or ready for public release. In some cases like the Solartronic 2 we’ve seen a finished fixture more than three years ago but they have yet to be released, meanwhile we’ve known about the Filtertronic for nearly a year but no photos of the actual product have been produced.
It’s exciting to know that Focustronic is looking way ahead in what kind of reef tank they want to help create but with a handful of their teasers bordering on vaporware, it’s hard to know when these will actually materialize. To their credit, Focustronic telegraphed the Dosetronic and Mastertronic in the same way and those are now real and functional products so hopefully the Powertronic, Controltronic come sooner than later, and as big fans of automatic filter rolls we can’t wait to get our hands on the Filtertronic.
