Every LED light bar should have a tank mounting solution and Reef Factory have just launched theirs.
As the name suggests the side mount kit allows users to mount a single Reef Flare Bar to the top rim of their tank via a pair of width adjustable acrylic clamps. The clamps accommodate a number of different glass thicknesses and simply slide along the profile to also allow fitting to tanks that are smaller than the bar itself.
Unlike light bars with length adjustable legs, like Fluval’s Marine 3.0, Reef Factory’s mounting solution doesn’t stretch to accommodate tanks longer than the bar itself, but it more than makes up for it with the novel rotational adjustment built into the mounting clamp.
By way of a simple, semi-circle cut-out, the mount kit enables a Reef Flare Bar to be pivoted on its axis, enabling users to turn the bar inwards at an angle to light corals where conventional, overhead lighting may be blocked out. This also serves to highlight specimen corals where extra show-stopping pop is required lower down.
In the past, many LED light bar users have had to DIY angle brackets onto other existing light fixtures in order to enable adjustment. And although we have seen fixed, angled acrylic mounting from Reef Brite as well as rotation capability on metal hanging brackets, this super simple tank mounting device from Reef Factory is a welcome, and inventive, step.
The icing on the cake is the price, at just £27 ($38) a pair.
