One of the biggest sources for reef aquarium knowledge and information is learning from reef builders all over the world. Traveling to visit reef tanks built using different gear, different techniques, original philosophies, and unique selections of corals has always been one of our favorite parts of bringing you the news and very soon we’ll finally get to see what our reefing brothers to the south are up to.
It’s been a long time staying within American borders but this weekend a unique aquarium event is going down in Mexico where Dr. Sanjay Joshi and myself will be in Mexico City, one of the largest cities in the world, to participate in a mini conference organized and hosted by Central Reef. Dr. Joshi will be speaking on reef aquarium lighting as well as managing nutrients such as phosphate and nitrate, and in a similar vein to last week’s Reef Therapy discussion of coral size, we’ll be showing off videos of some rare and unusual corals and colonies from natural coral reefs of the Solomon Islands.
Registration for the Central Reef sponsored event starts at $450 MXN which includes access to both presentations as well as some light food and beverage and what is sure to be a whole lot of reef aquarium discussion. We look forward to visiting some stores, touring a couple nice reef aquarium displays, and meeting a whole new reef aquarium community which is sure to hold plenty of fun surprises and we’ll be sure to report back on the highlights of this experience.
