Of all the components of reef aquarium systems the stand is the most easily overlooked and aside from using new materials like steel or aluminum, there’s rarely much innovation getting applied to aquarium stands. Thankfully this stagnation is starting to wane as we spied a very unique stand by Linea Unica from InterZoo which not only incorporates a sliding base for the sump, but a pair of drawers for your foods and accessories.
Reaching into an aquarium stand to perform any kind of maintenance on the sump resting on the floor is never an ergonomic position to be in, especially in shorter stands so anything that manufacturers can do to give users greater access is a very welcome improvement. We recognize that not every stand can have a slide out sump, especially for the larger models but that doesn’t mean we can’t use more sliding features.
Red Sea recently released a slide out board for mounting controllers and dosing pumps but we’d love to see more drawers of assorted kinds, either just as a stash for test kits or additives but a slide-out reservoir for gravity fed is something which would make using a reef tank easier, and we’ve actually seen one company make precisely this.
